Aitutaki Accommodations

US$250 and up

In 2002 the Pacific Resort Aitutaki opened on the site of the former Rapae Motel just north of Arutanga. A branch of the Pacific Resort on Rarotonga, this property includes 19 bungalows, six suites, and three villas. A restaurant and horizon swimming pool are provided. The snorkeling here is good.

The Aitutaki Lagoon Resort, on Akitua Island near Ootu Beach at the east end of the airstrip, is connected to the main island by a small wooden bridge.

There are 16 air-conditioned garden bungalows, nine lagoonview bungalows, five beachfront bungalows, and seven so-called overwater bungalows, all with private bath and fridge. Three garden rooms are closer to the main complex. Only the front deck of the "overwater" bungalows is partially overwater—the rear entrance is firmly anchored to the shore. Cooking facilities are not provided but full board is available. Children under 12 stay free.

The resort's Wednesday night seafood buffet and the Saturday barbecue both feature traditional dancing.

There's a swimming pool and the beach is lovely, but the water offshore is murky and there's nothing much to see through your mask. A surcharge is added to any tours or cruises booked through this resort.
