The Vaima Restaurant and Bar (closed Wednesday), on the south coast just east of the Sheraton site, has a reputation for good food. Saturday nights there's live music. Call to ask about hotel transfers.
The Yellow Hibiscus Restaurant (daily) is at Palm Grove Lodges on the south coast. Sunday at 1830 there's a barbecue here (reservations required).
The Saltwater Café (closed Friday and Saturday) has burgers, curries, breakfast, and trendy coffees. Lunch mains are priced NZ$8 to NZ$28 (dinner not available).
Sails Restaurant (open daily), at the Rarotonga Sailing Club, serves a full à la carte menu supplemented with a good selection of fresh seafood, fruits, and vegetables.
Stefano's Italian Café (closed Monday), next to the Muri Beach Club Hotel, serves homemade pasta freshly prepared by Roberta and Stefano.
Island Sushi at the Shells Shop (closed Sunday) at Muri Beach prepares fresh sushi platters every morning. It's a good choice for a light, healthy lunch.
The Flame Tree Restaurant (open nightly), on Muri Beach, has been the island's top restaurant since it opened in 1988. South Indian vegetarian curries, fillet mignon, and an oven-baked rack of lamb are on the menu. It opens at 1830 daily and reservations are recommended. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available.
